DMA and Key Trade Groups Release Comprehensive Privacy Principles for Use And Collection of Behavioral Data in Online Advertising
DMA, along with colleagues in the advertising and marketing community, the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's), the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), and the Council of Better Business Bureaus (BBB), has announced cross-industry principles for self-regulation for Online Behavioral Advertising. This announcement culminates a year-long effort to respond to the call from the FTC for industry self-regulation in this important and rapidly evolving area.

Direct Marketing Educational Foundation Announces Annual Awards Recipients
The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) has announced that Beth Smith, co-owner of Smith Browning Direct will receive the DMEF Edward N. Mayer, Jr. Education Leadership Award; Susan Goodman, chief executive officer, Goodman&Company will be presented with the DMEF Corporate Leadership Award on behalf of Goodman&Company; and Jerry Shereshewsky, chief executive officer of Grandparents.com, will receive the exclusive DMEF Vision Award.

DMA Nonprofit Federation Announces 2009 Advisory Council Members
The Nonprofit Federation of the Direct Marketing Association (DMANF)has announced the names of five new members to its Advisory Council. Starting July 1, 2009, Susan M. Loth, director of fundraising, Disabled American Veterans, will serve as chairman and Geoffrey W. Peters, president, CDR Fundraising Group, will serve as vice-chairman of the DMANF Advisory Council. The Federation also welcomes three new appointments from the nonprofit community who will serve as Council members.

DMEF Names Charles F. Hofacker Co-Editor of Journal of Interactive Marketing
The DMEF has announced that it has named Charles F. Hofacker, PhD, professor of marketing at Florida State University, co-editor of the Journal of Interactive Marketing (JIM), effective Jan. 1, 2010. Hofacker will work jointly with Edward C. Malthouse, DMEF Board Member, and Sills Professor of Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University.

DMA Offers 'Safe Harbor' Program for Companies that Import European Personal Data to US
Does your company import personal data from Europe to the US? If "yes," then you might want to consider joining the US Department of Commerce's safe harbor framework. In 1998, the European Union passed wide-sweeping privacy legislation called the European Union Data Protection Directive. This Directive places requirements on businesses that wish to collect, process or transfer personal data from an EU Member State. The US Department of Commerce and DMA have Safe Harbor programs in place to help American companies who are impacted by the directive.

Email Experience Council Launches Email Marketing Program for Women's Bean Project
eec, DMA's email marketing arm, announced that it has helped the Women’s Bean Project, a Denver-based nonprofit, successfully design, create, and launch a new email marketing program from scratch. The effort, which began last summer, was part of the eec’s annual E-ality Focus project.
