Rules for ECHO Entrants

BEFORE DOWNLOADING THE 2001 ECHO ENTRY FORM.
WARNING: This entry form was created in Microsoft
Word and is compatible with Word 97 or greater (i.e., Word
2000 for PC and Word 2000 and 2001 for Macintosh). You can

For Word 97 users: When opening the document you will
get a "WARNING" Box stating the document
contains MACROS or CUSTOMIZATIONS. Because this is a customized
form, please click "ENABLE MACROS". Otherwise
you will disable all validations.
For Word 2000 Windows PC User: Please check your macro
security level before opening the form. Your macro security
level is located in TOOLS Macro security level. If
the setting is currently high, please set to medium. Note:
If your security level is set to HIGH, there will be no validation
on this form.
Use this form to complete your ECHO entry. This electronic
form can not be altered or modified in any way. No other form
or substitution will be accepted. Please provide all required
information. Failure to provide complete information will
be subject to disqualification.
Instructions for Completing and Submitting Entry Form:
Once you have downloaded the form: Open up Microsoft Word
and select file document ECHOForm2001 and then select
file SAVE AS and rename your document with a new name
(i.e., ECHO1 or ECHO2).
We recommend you print a blank copy of the form and collect
the required information before completing the form entirely.
To enter data into a text field click on the field. To move
to the next field press the TAB key; to move back to
the previous field press the "SHIFT TAB"
key.
To select a check box, simply place your mouse in the check
box and click. Some of the check boxes require single and/or
multiple selections. Check boxes may be grouped; this means
that only one can be selected.
When moving from one text field to the other DO NOT
use the "RETURN" key. You must use the "TAB"
key to move from field to field.
There are character and word limitations on each field. You
will need to minimize your use of carriage returns. Also,
the form contains help texts for some fields, located in the
lower left-hand corner of your screen.
NOTE: Special symbols (i.e., à, õ, æ)
can not be typed directly into the text fields nor can spell
check be used. In order to insert symbols and use spell check,
you must create the text copy in another MS Word document
and then cut and paste into the text fields in the application.
Please do not try to submit your entry application electronically
via e-mail to the DMA, they will not be accepted.
You must submit a printed and electronic copy on disk of
your completed entry form. Copy your form onto a floppy diskette
or zip disk. The diskette must be 3-inch for PC or MAC. Both
the hard copy and disk must be sent in the same package along
with your entry fee and two creative samples to the DMA ECHO
Awards.
General Rules
You must provide a clear, concise, and logical response to
each and every question that is applicable to your campaign.
Please do not exceed the spacing available on this form or
include any supplementary pages. Additional pages will be
discarded upon receipt. All entries must be typewritten or
computer generated (Use 10-point type or larger). Entries
that exceed the space restriction and/or submitted without
Results information will automatically be disqualified. Entry
form must be mailed with 2 creative samples and payment. The
DMA reserves the right to reassign entry categories that are
deemed incorrectly entered. Entry forms and samples cannot
be returned. Please retain a photocopy of your entry application
for your files.
What's eligible?
Direct marketing programs that ran in the U.S. or internationally
that were produced, printed and/or aired, and had response
results tabulated between January 1, 2000 and March 31, 2001
are eligible. All work must be client-approved and done in
the normal course of business. Any advertiser, agency, client,
consultant, or producer may submit an entry, provided each
qualifies within the definition of the category entered. All
entries must be approved by advertiser/client for submission
in the 2001 DMA International ECHO Awards Competition.
Fees and Deadline:
Early Bird Deadline - April 16, 2001. Fee is $150
per entry. For entries postmarked after April 16th,
add $75 per each entry. Final Deadline is April
23, 2001. All entries must arrive by this date. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Please do not call to ask for an extension.
All entry fees must accompany the entry application and two
creative samples. Fees are not refundable under any circumstances.
Fees can be made by check, payable to 2001 DMA ECHO Awards,
made out in U.S. dollars only and drawn on a U.S.A. bank.

The Entrant must prepay all bank transfer charges assessed
by your bank, so that the full entry fee ($150.00) is received
by the DMA. Attach a copy of your bank transfer's confirmation
to your entry form as your form of payment.
You can also pay by VISA, MasterCard, American Express
or Discover. If paying by credit card, enclose the following
information in a payment envelope: card type, account number,
expiration date, cardholder's name and cardholder's signature.
If your entry reaches the semi-finalist stage (Round 2), there
will be an additional entry fee of U.S. $150.00.
Preparation of Materials:
Submit one completed entry form with payment; along with
2 complete samples of your creative. Materials should NOT
be mounted. All mounted materials will be disqualified.
International Entrants:
Campaigns not in the English language must be accompanied
by a complete translation and all radio/television commercials
must be dubbed or subtitled into English in order to be judged.
Otherwise, the entry will be disqualified. All videocassettes
must be NTSC standard. Do not place an insured value on the
contents. Please send all materials via Air Priority Mail
or special courier such as TNT, Federal Express, or DHL. Please
do not send via an airline or agent, as we are unable to collect
from the airport or customs.
For all Entrants:
Please retain a copy of your entry application. Should
your campaign entry advance to Round 2 (semi-finals), you
will be asked to resubmit your entry and creative components
in a mounted portfolio. Please note the contact person named
on the entry form will be advised of the competition results.
Semi-finalist entrants will be notified via air-courier on
or about June 22, 2001 of the status of their campaign. Finalist
notifications are mailed in August and ECHO winners will be
announced at the 2001 ECHO Awards Ceremony on October 28,
2001 at the DMA Annual Conference in Chicago.
