Nonprofit Federation Calls for Nominations for 2008 Nonprofit Organization of the Year; Nominations Due May 16

April 25, 2008 — Each year, the Nonprofit Federation of the Direct Marketing Association recognizes an outstanding nonprofit group with its Organization of the Year Award.  This year’s deadline for nominations is Friday, May 16, 2008.

The award will be presented at a luncheon on August 15 during the 2008 New York Nonprofit Conference.

This annual Nonprofit Federation award recognizes a nonprofit organization that:

·         Has an outstanding record of sustained achievement in direct marketing fundraising and has consistently demonstrated successful financial performance

·         Is a recognized leader with a solid reputation for excellence in the nonprofit and direct marketing communities and with the public at large

·         Meets the high ethical standards of the nonprofit community, and complies with generally accepted standards for management and public disclosure

·         Has demonstrated innovative direct marketing techniques

An organization need not be a member of the Nonprofit Federation to be nominated.  Previous recipients of the award include the US division of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), American Diabetes Association, CARE, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

“Every day, there are thousands of charitable organizations around the country working to meet society’s most pressing needs,” said Brian Cowart, chairman of the Nonprofit Federation Awards Committee and senior director of direct mail donor acquisition and cultivation for ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  “Direct marketing plays an important role in how these groups communicate with the public to raise funds, seek volunteers, and talk about important issues.  We urge the community to submit nominations that reflect best practices in nonprofit direct-response fundraising that will inspire us all.  We don't always have a chance to honor the truly valuable work that defies tough odds, and we look forward to showcasing this year's winner."

About the Nonprofit Federation of the DMA

The Nonprofit Federation of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is the leading association for nonprofit organizations that use direct marketing channels such as mail, Internet, email, telephone, and social networking to gain support from individual donors.  For more than 25 years, the Nonprofit Federation (and its predecessor organizations) has served as an effective advocate for nonprofits both in Washington, DC and in all 50 states regarding postal rates and delivery service, data protection, fundraising accountability, and other legislative and regulatory issues that affect nonprofit fundraising.  It also leads the way in professional education, market intelligence, and networking for its more than 400 member organizations.  In 2006, Americans gave $222 billion to nonprofit organizations; the majority of those donations were the result of direct marketing.  For additional information on the Nonprofit Federation, its work, and its member benefits, visit www.nonprofitfederation.org.
