Tomorrow! DMA to Host Sept. 11 Virtual Conference on 'Move Update & Standard Mail'

September 10, 2008 — On November 23, 2008, the US Postal Service’s (USPS) Move Update standards will expand from First-Class Mail automation and presort-price mailings to include all Standard Mail mailings.  To assist mailers prepare for the change, the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) will host a virtual seminar on Thursday, September 11 at 2 p.m. (EDT).

The hour-long briefing, which is free for DMA members, will feature experts from the USPS, who will be able to explain these standards and answer participants questions.

When the change is made on November 23, the minimum frequency of Move Update processing also changes from 185 days to 95 days prior to mailing, which means that to meet the new requirements, mailers must use addresses that were updated within the previous 95 days.  For example, mailings entered on November 23 must have addresses updated no earlier than August 20.

Also, if an address used on a mailpiece in a mailing at one class of mail is updated, the same address may be used during the following 95 days in another mailing, even if it’s another class of mail.

The USPS is considering a Move Update non-compliance adjustment factor of $.07 per piece applied to the total pieces in the mailing regardless of any discount price levels claimed.
