Email Experience Council Releases Email Marketing Q&A's

October 1, 2008The Email Experience Council (eec), the email marketing arm of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), today announced the release of the Email Marketing Q&A’s, a set of 20 commonly asked email marketing questions and their answers.

“Because of email marketing’s phenomenal return on investment, we continue to see a significant influx of new marketers into the community,” said Jeanniey Mullen, eec founder and chief marketing officer of Zinio and VIVMag.  “To help address the questions that these new practitioners invariably have, our members have assembled this list of commonly asked questions and provided solid answers.”

“Education is an important pillar of the eec’s mission,” said Ramesh Lakshmi-Ratan, Ph.D., DMA’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.  “The new Email Marketing Q&A’s are another great example of how the eec is leading the way on establishing best practices across the rapidly growing email marketing community.”

Some of the Email Marketing Q&A’s include:

·         How much does it cost to buy an email list?

·         Do I need to get permission in order to send emails to customers?

·         How often should I email subscribers?

·         What is the best day of the week to send email?

·         Is it possible to embed videos in emails?

·         Everyone on my file has opted in, so why do I get spam complaints?

·         In the wake of the latest CAN-SPAM ruling (effective July 7, 2008), what has changed?

“There tends to be some confusion and misinformation about email marketing best practices,” said Lauren Skena, account director at Epsilon and previous eec Member Initiatives Advisory Committee chair who created the Email Marketing Q&A’s.  “We are happy to share our knowledge and information through the eec in order to help new email marketers improve their programs.”

The Email Marketing Q&A’s are amongst a growing library of eec resources for practitioners who are new to email marketing.  Other resources include email checklists, useful tools and links, industry blogs, an email glossary, and an array of free reports available in the eec Whitepaper Room.
