DMA Circulation Council to Induct Pete Pedersen into Circulation Hall of Fame

January 27, 2009 — The Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) Circulation Council today announced it will induct Pete Pedersen, former executive director, Publisher Relations for Publisher’s Clearing House (PCH) into the DMA Circulation Hall of Fame.  The award will be presented at a ceremony during DMA’s 23rd Annual Circulation Day, on February 3, at the Marriot Marquis in New York City.

DMA’s Circulation Hall of Fame Award recognizes a peer-elected individual who has significantly contributed to the circulation profession through workplace achievement, circulation breakthrough, creativity, and/or community involvement.  Susan Allyn, the 2008 Hall of Fame inductee and vice president, Customer Acquisition for Hearst Magazines, will present the award.

“Pete Pedersen is so deserving of this honor,” said Michele Jaworski, principal at MJ Consulting and member of DMA’s Circulation Council Education and Events Committee.  “He has been instrumental in both the publishing and direct marketing communities in numerous ways and his credibility and integrity have been steadying influences.  Over the years he has helped so many of us grow and manage our own businesses — but more than that, Pete has been a friend, mentor, and role model to us all.”

Pete Pedersen began his circulation career at Time Inc.’s LIFE Magazine, where he served as vice president for Life Circulation Company and its successor companies.  After Time Inc., Pedersen spent two years on active duty in the United States Army.

Upon his return, Pedersen joined PCH in 1979 as director of Sales Development where he was responsible for testing and developing what later became Power Line, PCH’s telemarketing arm.  For 25 years he ran the company’s publisher relations activities with over 600 clients in the US, Canada, and the UK.  After retirement from PCH, he formed petersenDirect, a consultancy specializing in client and supplier relationships.  Pedersen also serves as a consultant for Palm Coast Data.

He served as a Board Director for both the Fulfillment Management Association (FMA) and the XYZ Club, and has been inducted into the FMA Hall of Fame.  Pedersen is also a lecturer at New York University’s School of Continuing Education, as well as a frequent speaker for DMA, FMA, and the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA).
