September 11, 2006 — The deadly terrorist events of February 26, 1993, and September 11, 2001, are among the most significant in the modern history of the United States and the world. Combined, those attacks resulted in the lost lives of 2,979 innocent men, women, and children from 92 countries.

To commemorate the lost and honor their families and the brave men and women who heroically aided on those days, The World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial Foundation will build, own, and operate the Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero. This site is being planned by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC), a city-state entity established after 9/11 to guide the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan.
