What Will the Election Mean for Marketers? Learn at DMA's Members-Only Teleconference on Nov. 9.
November 2, 2006 — From privacy to postage rates, changes in Congress and state legislatures could have a serious impact on your ability to communicate effectively with current and potential customers and donors.
Once the votes are in, we invite you to join DMA’s government affairs team for a post-election wrap-up and analysis of what the election results could mean for the direct marketing community.
This exclusive, members-only conference call will take place on Thursday, November 9, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST. DMA’s government affairs staff and lobbyists will be on the phone with our members to discuss the election results and answer your questions.
Potentially “hot” issues for 2007 include: privacy, data security, spyware, postage rates, and online sales tax.
Our DMA government affairs team and our outstanding network of independent counselors have a wealth of experience at the national and state levels:
- Jerry Cerasale, DMA’s senior vice president for Government Affairs, has been with DMA for more than a decade, having previously served as chief counsel to the subcommittee on postal issues within the US House of Representatives.
- Steve Champlin, vice president of the Duberstein Group, has nearly 30 years of experience as a lobbyist and in staff positions for key Democratic members of the House of Representatives.
- Jim Conway, a vice president on DMA’s government affairs team, has a background in telecommunications policy that includes 13 years chief legislative counsel for Siemens and a stint as legislative aide to former Senator Jacob Javits.
- Anne Darr and Dan Smith of DeHart and Darr Associates counsel DMA on legislative and regulatory issues in the 50 states. The firm has a network of state consultants and lobbyists, and has represented direct marketers for over 30 years.
- Ed Gleiman, a former chairman of the Postal Rate Commission, advises DMA on postal issues.
- Emily Hackett, executive director of DMA’s Internet Alliance, is our in-house expert on state legislative issues related to online marketing and communications.
- Stuart Ingis, a partner with Venable, LLP, counsels DMA on privacy and Internet issues. He is the co-author of Privacy Protection in the United States: A Survey.
- Dan Meyer, vice president of Duberstein Group, has more than 25 years of Hill experience, having served as Chief of Staff in the Republican Whip office and Chief of Staff in the Speaker’s Office, working for former Congressman Newt Gingrich.
- Mark Micali, vice president for Government Affairs, has been with DMA for more than a decade, having previously worked on Capitol Hill on the legislative staff of former Congressman Dan Rostenkowski.
- William Nordwind, a partner at Venable, spent more than 15 years on Capitol Hill, including five years as counsel to the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet of the House Energy & Commerce Committee.
