DMA Seeks Member Comment on Revision to 'Information Security' Self-Regulatory Ethics Guideline; Jan. 12 Deadline
December 21, 2006 — Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is seeking member comments on proposed revisions to its self-regulatory ethics guideline on “Information Security” (Article #36) of DMA’s Guidelines for Ethical Business Practice. Deadline for member comments are due on or by Friday, January 12, 2007.
In January 2003, DMA’s Board of Directors approved the current guideline on Information Security, which established that members should actively strive to protect their customers’ information by taking specific steps. The draft revisions are primarily concerned with notifying consumers in case of security breaches, and consideration of data retention and destruction practices.
All comments will be carefully reviewed before the draft is submitted to DMA’s Board for approval. Once approved, DMA members will be informed of resultant changes to Article #36 and accompanying best practices.
Comments on the proposed revisions should be e-mailed to ethics@the-dma.org on or by Friday, January 12, 2007.
