DMA to Present Nov. 14 Member Briefing on PRC's Final Ratemaking Rules
November 13, 2007—The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at 2 p.m. (EST) will present a briefing, both online and by teleconference, to help members better understand the Postal Regulatory Commission’s (PRC) final regulations to implement the new postal ratemaking procedures. The new rules promise to have a lasting impact on members of the direct marketing community for years to come.
The PRC published its final rule on Monday, October 29. The new procedures are accessible via the PRC’s homepage at www.prc.gov or via the Federal Register (November 9, 2008) by clicking here.
As required by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA), which President Bush signed into law on December 21, 2006, the new regulations will address rate adjustments for market-dominant products of the United States Postal Service (USPS), as well as competitive products and the establishment of a Mail Classification Schedule, which categorizes products as either market dominate or competitive.
To elaborate on the rules and to answer members’ questions, PRC General Counsel Steve Sharfman is scheduled — along with other postal experts — to participate in DMA’s one-hour member briefing.
