For First Time, DMA 'Goes Mobile' at 2008 DM Days New York Conference & Expo

Conference & Expo Set for June 10-12 in New York City

New York, NY, April 28, 2008 — A complete conference guide in a cell phone?  As the 2008 DM Days New York Conference & Expo goes mobile — a first for a Direct Marketing Association (DMA) conference — attendees will be able to employ their cell phones to help them navigate the three-day event.  DM Days will be held June 10-12 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY.

Conference registrants can just send the keyword DMDAYS to 58671 via text message, and they’re connected — even before the physical show begins on Tuesday, June 10.  Once they choose to opt in — in the parlance of William Shakespeare — “All the world’s a stage.”

Before, during, and after the conference, delegates can use DM Days’ mobile Internet site to find the conference schedule, sign up for interactive voice response (IVR) wake-up calls, receive text alerts about events, find a specific booth, and generally stay connected.

“By going mobile, we’re demonstrating that DM Days is on the cutting edge of events,” said Rachael Mark, DMA group show director.  “Strategically, mobile is the future.  The bottom line is really being able, not just to pull information, but to connect people in a faster, more efficient, and more convenient way.  Not only does this initiative keep DM Days on the leading edge of technology, it helps position this conference and expo truly as a center for innovative, forward-thinking marketing.”

The DM Days’ mobile initiative is being offered via the cooperative efforts of DMA and mobile software platform provider iLoop Mobile, Inc.

“Instead of carrying around a four-pound program in your bag, you have the program in your phone,” said Michael J. Becker, executive vice president, business development, iLoop Mobile, Inc.  “Also, mobile is becoming a personal, interactive device.  Quite simply, it puts the show in your hand.”

DM Days will maximize the full capabilities of mobile — voice, Internet, and text — to ensure that attendees have the complete conference experience.  If, for instance, a delegate needs to get to a session in 10 minutes and wants to visit an exhibitor quickly, she can use the booth finder option to locate the exhibitor swiftly.  Problem solved.

“We’re really pleased to bring the power of mobile to DM Days, because it’s a ‘win’ for everyone — conferees, speakers, and exhibitors will have the ultimate direct marketing experience, all right in the palm of his hand,” Mark said.
