DMA List & Data Council Announces 2009 List Leader of the Year, Young List Professional, and Industry Innovation Awards Winners2009 Recipients Are Adrea Rubin, Robin Smith, and Denny Hatch New York, NY, May 11, 2009 — The Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) List & Data Council today announced the 2009 winners of its List Leader of the Year Award, Ron Davis Young List Professional of the Year, and Industry Innovation Award. The recipients are Adrea Rubin, chief executive officer, Adrea Rubin Marketing; Robin Smith, account supervisor, ALC; and Denny Hatch, proprietor, BusinessCommonSense.com, respectively. Honors will be presented during a June 15 awards dinner in Fast Forward, the only executive workshop for list executives held at DMA’s “Our most prestigious awards always recognize commitment to change, which all of our honorees demonstrate,” said Jay Schwedelson, corporate vice president, Worldata, DMA List Leader Group Chairman, and member of the awards selection committee. “Adrea Rubin, being awarded the 2009 List Leader of the Year honor, has made countless contributions to our community. And Denny Hatch, who truly revolutionized the list business, will receive our Industry Innovation Award which debuted last year.” 2009 List Leader of the Year — Adrea Rubin Chief Executive Officer, Adrea Rubin Marketing, Inc. The List Leader of the Year Award annually honors an individual for outstanding contributions to the list and data community. Honorees must have at least 15 years of experience in the list and data profession and have contributed to improvements in one or more of the following areas: Ethics, education, list practices and standards, privacy issues, postal reform, communication, and environmental concerns. Rubin began her direct marketing career in 1974 as the Direct Mail Marketing Association’s Insurance council administrator (DMIC). By 1976 she was already recruited by Direct Media to open their Recognizing the changes affecting the future of the list business, Rubin merged the concept of traditional list brokerage with the non-traditional use of compiled data. She pioneered the use of psychographic and demographic data to aid the traditional list community. In 1992, Rubin created Adrea Rubin Management, Inc., and today, both firms embrace multichannel direct marketing. Rubin is a longstanding member of both DMA and the List Leaders Group, as well as the 2009 chairperson for Fast Forward. 2009 Ron Davis Young List Professional of the Year Award — Robin Smith Account Supervisor, ALC, Inc. Named in honor of Ron Davis, who was responsible for creating the List Marketing Department at Meredith Corporation, the award recognizes young list professionals who have excelled in their careers. Davis, who died in 1995, was a well-known advocate of the list field. He gave generously to his field and mentored many young list professionals. The recipient has been integrally involved in creating ways for companies to be more productive and effective in serving their clients and employees. Hatch began as a freelance direct mail copywriter, designer, and consultant in 1976. Accompanied by his wife, Peggy, in 1984 Hatch launched the newsletter Who’s Mailing What! which was acquired by North American Publishing Company in 1992. Continuing to publish his newsletter, Hatch also began editing Target Marketing and The Directory of Major Mailers and What they Mail. Currently, he is a contributing editor of Target Marketing magazine, a feature writer for Catalog Success, as well as proprietor of the twice-monthly e-newsletter, BusinessCommonSense.com.
