"SUPERMARKET GURU" PHIL LEMPERT TO DELIVER TUESDAY KEYNOTE AT ANNUAL CATALOG CONFERENCE

NEW YORK, May 21, 2003 – Phil Lempert, consumer trend-tracker, author and columnist, will deliver the Tuesday keynote address at the 20th Annual Catalog Conference in San Francisco on June 3, 2003.

The conference, which runs June 1 to 3, is presented by the Direct Marketing Association and Catalog Age.

In this keynote session, Lempert will take a look at rapidly changing consumer habits and the top trends impacting their lives and purchase behavior.

For more than 20 years, Lempert has identified and explained impending trends to consumers and some of the most prestigious companies worldwide. To consumers he is known as "The Supermarket Guru," seen on the Today show and heard weekly on radio. However, to more than 600,000 business leaders, he is a distinguished speaker who alerts them to impending corporate and consumer trends.

Former president and founder of Lempert Advertising, the only full service "food only" award-winning Ad Agency, Lempert evolved as the voice of the consumer and became nationally known as "The Supermarket Guru." With a move to the West Coast in the early 90’s, Lempert became a partner and senior vice president of Age Wave, the leading demographic and life stage consulting company. There he expanded his career to include demographic and lifestyle analyses. As part of an overall strategy, the company set up clients to deal with the coming-of-age (50+) baby-boomer generation.

Today, Lempert publishes the food trends publication The Lempert Report, and is the food trends editor for NBC News’ Today show. He has also appeared on The View, Oprah, Discovery Health and Extra. He can be heard weekly as host of Shopping Smart, a live call-in syndicated radio show that airs in more than 100 cities nationwide.

Lempert is the author of several books, including Being the Shopper: Understanding the Buyer's Choices in the Second Millennium, Phil Lempert's Supermarket Shopping & Value Guide, Top Ten Trends for Baby Boomers and CrisisManagement: A Workbook for Survival.
