TOYS FOR TOTS RECEIVES DMA NONPROFIT “ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD”

NEW YORK, Wednesday, August 13, 2003 -- The Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation (The DMANF) honored The Toys for Tots Foundation with its 2003 Organization of the Year Award. DMANF Chair Pegg Nadler presented the award to Matthew T. Cooper, Lt. General, USMC (Ret) of The Toys for Tots Foundation today during the group's annual New York Nonprofit Conference held at The Waldorf-Astoria.

"We are delighted to present this award to such an outstanding nonprofit organization," said Nadler, President, Pegg Nalder Consulting. "This is the top achievement award for our members, and Toys for Tots has provided a stellar example for other organizations for decades."

Each year, The DMA Nonprofit Federation recognizes a nonprofit organization for its exceptional efforts and vision. Criteria for the Nonprofit Organization of the Year Award include:

  • Demonstrated excellence in the pursuit of its mission.
  • Recognition as a leader with a solid reputation in the nonprofit and direct marketing communities as well as with the public at large.
  • Outstanding record of achievement and successful financial performance during the previous year or longer.
  • Meets the highest ethical standards of the nonprofit community.
  • Demonstrated long-term success using direct and interactive marketing techniques.

Since 1947, the Toys for Tots Program has collected millions of toys for underprivileged children each holiday season. In 2002 alone, the organization collected approximately 13 million toys.

The Toys for Tots Foundation has developed a successful direct marketing campaign that has provided significant returns, including a direct mail campaign that increased contributions approximately 75 percent in the past five years. The Foundation also has a proven track record of outstanding ethical behavior throughout the nonprofit community. It has been listed in both The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s top 400 list and has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, an online charity evaluation service.
