New York, September 2, 2005 – The Direct Marketing Association is calling on all of its members to contribute goods and services and provide monetary support to efforts to aid communities and individuals affected by Hurricane Katrina. The DMA’s Committee on Social Responsibility, formed earlier this summer, will take on as its first effort the coordination of donations from DMA member companies. Members with resources to offer are urged to contact The DMA immediately ( hurricanerelief@the-dma.org). The DMA will coordinate with the members of The DMA Nonprofit Federation that are conducting hurricane relief efforts to help channel corporate donations to the organizations and areas where they will be most effective. The 5,200 corporate, chapter and affiliate members of The Direct Marketing Association offer a wide range of products and services. Each can bring their particular talents, products and services to aid in relief efforts -- from call center support from teleservices companies, to computer and office support, to emergency items such as clothing, blankets, and even services such as assistance for victims in dealing with creditors or free advertising space for organizations seeking donations. "Assisting victims of Katrina and helping communities rebuild is a massive undertaking that will require months, if not years, of effort," said Jennifer Barrett, chair of DMA’s Social Responsibility Committee. "We urge DMA members to think creatively and give generously to provide help to those in need."
