A MESSAGE FROM DMEF CHAIRMAN AL DYON AND PRESIDENT TERRI L. BARTLETT

Dear Members of the Marketing Direct Community –

Professors and students continue to look to the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation as the source for resources to further the teaching and research in the direct / interactive marketing arena.  Thanks to the outstanding efforts of our Board and staff, 2008 offers great promise and opportunity as we continue to reinvigorate our program offerings to deliver on our mission … to attract, educate, and place top college students by continuously improving and supporting the teaching of world-class direct / interactive marketing.

To showcase these programs and provide easy access and navigation to all DMEF programs and activities, we have initiated a complete overhaul of our website which will launch in August of this year.  We are certain this investment of resources will catapult the DMEF to new levels among our key audiences.  Watch for news as the time draws near.

In the meantime, we continue to mirror the dramatic activities taking place in the direct marketing world as we revitalize literally every DMEF program.  Over the next few months we’ll be telling you more about these efforts, which are divided into three areas to meet the needs of our three key audiences, including:

Attract:                         Student-Focused Programs

Educate:                      Education-Focused Programs

Place:                           Corporate-Focused Programs

In the meantime, we are very excited to announce the 2008 Rising Stars Awards to acknowledge both corporate and individual leaders in our field … those companies committed to nurturing talent of today to ensure a robust professional field tomorrow, and those individuals slated for leadership tomorrow.  With the deadline for nominations right around the corner (February 22), there’s no time to waste.  See instructions below to submit your nominations now.

In closing, we thank you for your ongoing support of the DMEF.  Or, if you’re just joining us for the first time … or resurfacing after a long absence … we invite you to get involved.  Mark your calendar to attend the June 10 Rising Stars Awards Dinner in New York City, held in conjunction with DM Days New York, or provide your financial support to further the programs that will ensure the future of Direct / Interactive Marketing.  We need your support!

Sincerely,

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS:  Corporate and Individual Rising Stars Awards Nominations Accepted Through February 22

DMEF is urging multichannel marketing professionals to submit nominations by the February 22 deadline to recognize and honor the profession’s talented "Rising Stars" – professionals 40 years and younger, as well as the companies that find and nurture this talent.  You may submit your nomination(s) through an easy online submission process:

We are accepting reservations to the June Dinner where the Rising Stars will receive their awards:

A DMEF Awards Selection Committee, culled from DMEF Board Members, will review nominations and announce this year’s winners in March. Winners will be honored on June 10, at DMEF’s New York Annual Dinner, at the Marriott Marquis in the heart of New York City’s Times Square.

DMEF Rising Star Award

The DMEF’s Rising Star Award is presented to professionals, aged 40 and under, who demonstrate superior leadership abilities, including a strong track record of outstanding results, and a stellar reputation for "giving back" through direct marketing education, as exemplified by such activities as teaching and mentoring.
Last year, at the first annual presentation of the award, DMEF honored four Rising Stars:

DMEF Corporate Commitment Award

DMEF's Corporate Commitment Award honors companies that regularly demonstrate a commitment to excellence in all areas of direct marketing education among new and upcoming talent, and that consistently participate in activities that foster and promote excellence — for today and tomorrow.
In 2007, DMEF presented its first Corporate Commitment Award to Time Consumer Marketing, Inc. The honor, formerly known as the DMEF Corporate Leadership Award, previously was earned by Bookspan (2006), Kraft (2005), and America Online (2004).

It’s hard to believe that we are already in the third of the four three-month rotations of the Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program. The excitement and enthusiasm of both the associates and the sponsor companies (above) continues to build as the promised benefits of the program become reality. The associates are making meaningful contributions to the sponsor companies and the companies are benefiting from the fresh insights of bright and dedicated young talent. We are about to start recruiting for the second year of this pilot program and are looking forward to yet another opportunity to help expand the direct / interactive talent pool.
