DMEF Launches Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program: Applications Now Being Accepted

The Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program (DMLDP) offers qualified applicants the opportunity to acquire valuable work experience through a unique combination of settings during a 12-month program in New York City. Associates will be placed in roles at three different organizations, rotating four-month assignments at the sponsoring companies, each one a leader in the field. Each candidate will have the opportunity to acquire valuable experience working alongside some of the profession’s most experienced direct marketing professionals. Associates will interact with clients and obtain firsthand experience of direct marketing management and operational resources. Participants in the program will gain exposure to the vast variety of potential career options available in the many disciplines under the direct marketing umbrella. The program provides a unique perspective that will impact future career decisions.

      When I heard about the Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program (DMLDP), I was slightly skeptical as to how this type of rotation would even be feasible. I was wondering, how could I possibly learn something of value in three or four month rotations? Fortunately I soon found out that not only would I learn a lot, but that I would be exposed to opportunities that most people don't see even after many years in the industry. What makes the program so special is that, unlike any other entry level opportunity, the program allows you to work with high level thinkers and strategists at the sponsor companies right off the bat. This creates a unique entry-level learning environment and gives you a solid set of tools and experiences that would normally take years to achieve.

      In searching for my first job, I knew that the easy route would have been for me to take an entry-level job where I could settle into a daily routine. However, my personal outlook on every step I have taken in my life is that I will never live up to my full potential, or even know it, without challenging myself. Every time that I step out of my comfort zone to take on something new, I mature significantly and develop skills or traits that help me further down the road. This program fit that mentality perfectly. No other position would have allowed me to work with so many great marketing minds, experience four completely unique environments and take on such a wide range of projects in the way that the Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program (DLMDP) would.

      The Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program (DMLDP) offers valuable hands-on experience in a variety of direct marketing environments. From day one you are immersed in the direct marketing world, learning from and contributing to projects in meaningful ways while networking with industry leaders. The program’s balance of education with experience was also especially attractive when I decided to apply. Attending the DMA seminars and conferences provided a solid knowledge base which I could then apply immediately. Best of all, however, is the support and enthusiasm surrounding the DMLDP. Everyone is excited to include the associates in what they are doing and share valuable career stories and direct marketing insight. By the end of this year, I will not only have a wide variety of direct marketing experience, but also the valuable sense of context that comes from interacting with a diverse set of people, projects and work cultures.

    I was attracted to the Direct Marketing Leadership Development Program (DLMDP) because of the uniqueness of the rotations, I had never even heard of doing a year rotation with four separate companies. The amount of exposure I would be getting was also a big perk. I thought this would be a great learning experience because of that aspect and this has certainly been the case. This program has provided me with several years’ worth of experience in one year. I know I will be a more attractive candidate than the average “second year out-of college” job candidate.
