A New Year’s Message from DMEF Chairman Allen Dyon
I, like many of you, cherish the start of a New Year. It’s filled with special opportunities, hope for the future, a chance to start afresh with positive resolutions, and it’s the time of year to count our blessings for the many gifts received throughout the previous year. What better time to introduce the first issue of the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation’s (DMEF) E-Update … a quarterly electronic publication designed to inform you of programs and activities to further our mission: |
to attract, educate, and place top college students by
continuously improving and supporting the teaching of
world-class direct and interactive marketing.
As you may know, the DMEF is the only national foundation of its kind solely committed to introducing – and in fact, engaging – professors and college students in the thriving business of direct and interactive marketing. It was established in 1966 and is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit educational foundation supported by tax-deductible contributions. With the generous support of many throughout the industry we have been busy working to enrich the lives of future leaders in the field of direct marketing. We thought it was time to let you know in on our secrets … and our successes … to keep you informed of what your industry foundation is doing and how we’re representing you nationwide.
We realize your time is limited so we’ll present the information in a succinct – yet informative – manner, with links to more information if desired. We invite you to read the information thoroughly, and to pass it along to your friends and colleagues.
So, with no further delay, from all of us at the DMEF, here’s wishing you a wonderful, happy, healthy and prosperous year in 2007. We look forward to joining you in the year ahead.

We Couldn’t Do It Without You! The DMEF Says Thank You To 2006 Contributors
The DMEF would be nothing without the support of each and every one of the generous donors who contribute resources to further the DMEF’s mission and objectives. Throughout the year we receive donations through events, annual giving, planned giving, and the like. We’d like to take a moment to say thank you to those who have enabled us to do what we do best … to enrich the field of direct marketing with new and market-ready talent. We hope you’ll take a moment to look through the list to see who is giving back – generously – to support the future of marketing … direct! Click here to view 2006 Donor list

DMEF Brings DM to Students and Professors: Program News
Student Career Forum
On a cold Friday in November, the DMEF hosted a Student Career Forum for 175 students and their faculty advisors from the New York metro area and as far away as Pennsylvania. Pat Corpora, President and CEO of HCI Direct, which owns Silkies.com provided a case study on how he turned this company around using sound direct marketing principles. Seth Radwell, President of Scholastic at Home, presented e-commerce and interactive marketing examples from Scholastic. Prisca Rabetafika, Managing Director of Direct Marketers on Call, Inc. (DMOC) led a career panel of direct marketers in the first few years of their careers, which engaged the audience in a lively Q&A exchange.
Educators Conference Call for Papers
A call for papers is on at www.educatorsconference.org. This year’s Educators Conference (October 14, 2007 in Chicago) expands its title as the “Interactive, Database and Direct Marketing Educators Conference.” Experienced practitioners who would like to serve as paper reviewers (to help in the selection process) or as discussants (to comment on a paper at the Educators Conference) should contact jnesler@the-dma.org. The conference offers discussions on academic papers giving viewpoints from both the experienced practitioner and qualified academic. As an added bonus, the first 100 full-time educators from 4-year or graduate schools, and Ph.D. candidates who submit papers, receive priority complimentary registration to DMA07, the DMA’s annual conference & exhibition. Best Paper Awards for $1,000 will be presented to authors of the top faculty paper and to the top paper co-authored with or authored by a Ph.D. candidate at an Awards Luncheon. A case writers workshop co-sponsored by CADMEF (Chicago Association of Direct Marketing Educational Foundation) and Educators Networking Reception take place Saturday, October 13.
