A MESSAGE FROM THE DMEF CHAIRMAN AND PRESIDENT
Dear Members of the Direct / Interactive Marketing Community,
As a nonprofit organization, we’re often asking you for donations to help us further our mission. As we kick off the New Year, we’d like to take this special opportunity to say thank you for your support! Through your contributions – financial, program-related, in-kind, and general goodwill – we have significantly raised the bar for everything we do here at the DMEF. Click here for a list of 2007 DMEF Donors.
We’ve always believed that the best way to say thank you is to succeed, so you’ll be proud to know that we have been doing just that throughout the past year. This success is leading to our increased – and improved – ability to bring you the most talented, energetic, entry-level staffing in the dynamic field of direct / interactive marketing. In this issue of E-update, we showcase by month the results achieved in 2007.
We thank you for your generosity and support during the past year. We’re honored to count you among the hundreds who are behind us. We assure you that we’re already at work to make 2008 an even better year with exciting, innovative programs to bring you the freshest, most creative talent entering the marketplace.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy and successful New Year! |

Winners of the 2007 competition are:

“We at the DMEF are very excited at the level established by this year’s program, and are thrilled to announce a new cash award to accompany the Awards Competition totaling $16,000 ... thanks to the generosity of Litle & Co.,” said Terri L. AUGUST
- Don Kuhn Fund for Research and Scholarship Launches

The DMEF’s Don Kuhn Fund for Research and Scholarship presents its first scholarship to Gabriela Urvina, an NYU graduate student who began NYU’s Direct and Interactive Marketing Program in the 2007 Fall semester. The scholarship is announced during the DMA Nonprofit Federation’s 2007 New York Nonprofit Conference. Urvina demonstrated her commitment to pursue a career in nonprofit direct/interactive marketing through her work at Heifer International, which assists people in rural cultures with developing economic independence.
In addition, the first research commissioned through the Don Kuhn Fund is unveiled at the Conference, examining the indirect effects of mail frequency in fundraising programs. The study was conducted by Edward Malthouse, PhD, associate professor of Integrated Marketing Communications at The Medill School, Northwestern University. Those interested in receiving an executive summary of the research – with helpful information to support practical use of these findings – should contact the DMEF, by sending an email to: dmef@the-dma.org – subject line: “Don Kuhn Fund Research Request”.
Research and education were a passion for Don Kuhn, the renowned direct-response fundraising pioneer; the award commemorates his contributions to the practice of charitable fundraising and his unwavering commitment to the philanthropic sector. The generous donations that Don’s friends and colleagues — many of whom he had mentored — have made to this fund will go a long way in generating substantive research and scholarship funds to support the nonprofit community. Click here for a list of Don Kuhn Fund Donors.
Exciting new program activities related to this Fund will be announced in early 2008.
