WHO WE ARE

DMEF
DMEF is a nonprofit educational foundation established in the mid-1960's by the Direct Marketing Association.

Our mission is to:

  • Increase and improve the teaching of direct and interactive marketing at colleges and universities
  • Attract new talent to the field
  • Provide career guidance and information
  • Bring the excitement of our industry to the classroom

Educational programs and services include
seminars and conferences, hands-on learning opportunities, and resources for both students and professors. The Foundation also sponsors the Journal of Interactive Marketing.

Non Profit Status
We do good work that helps professors teach and helps students begin careers. Therefore, we're funded by tax-deductible contributions from individuals, companies, and regional clubs and associations. The Foundation has 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status under the Internal Revenue Service regulations.

Governance
We are governed by a Board of Trustees, which consists of leading direct marketers and academics.

Each year, a new corporate sponsor develops the marketing challenge and provides background information on the client/ product. Student teams develop the marketing strategy, creative campaign, media plan, and itemized budget. Prizes are awarded. Complete rules are available by September 1.

College Day offers students and professors the opportunity to be a "delegate-for-the-day" at DMA's Annual Conference & Exhibition in the Fall. It includes a special session on careers and an opportunity to visit the exhibition and attend regular conference sessions.

Internships - DMA member companies list internship opportunities (both paid and unpaid) on the DMA Web site. Students should go to: www.the-dma.org/jobbank, click on Search Job Opportunities and then select Student/Trainee/Intern under Field. In addition, DMEF has begun a pilot program, Rising Junior summer internships, for students about to begin their junior year.
