V. RECYCLING AND POLLUTION REDUCTION IN OUR WORKPLACE AND COMMUNITY

[ORGANIZATION NAME]’s policies and initiatives in this area are guided by the Three Rs: "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle." With this in mind, we seek an efficient and environmentally sensible workplace, reduce our entrprise-wide eco-footprint, and promote environmental stewardship in our community. Toward this principle, [If applicable to the goals and/or nature of your business, please select one or more of the following options.]

A. We Reduce & Reuse in the Workplace
Where possible and practical, we buy office papers, packing and packaging materials made from recycled materials with post-consumer content.
We use recyclable materials and materials that don’t hinder the recycling process.
We integrate the use of electronic communications (e-mail, Web and intranet) for external and internal communications, understanding electronic communication also has environmental impacts that can and should be managed and mitigated.
We use recycled paper with post-consumer content where feasible for internal company print communications.
We make primary use of two-sided printing and photocopying where appropriate.
We develop online systems for reports, projects and monitoring to reduce paper consumption.
We reuse file folders, hanging folders and binders where appropriate.
We plan for “end-of-life” design in our communications and products, to encourage landfill diversion, recycling collection and reuse when and where appropriate.

C. We Promote/Advance Recycling in Our Community
We educate customers by advising them about what is or is not recyclable among materials we present to them, and, if available, where to recycle materials.
We use the recyclable symbol to identify paper and paperboard products made from fibers that, after use, are suitable for recycling. [Note: The Federal Trade Commission now has stated that labeling mail communications as ¿recyclable¿ is permitted since enough municipalities in the country now have local mixed paper recycling collection programs.]
We ensure that all environmental labeling is clear, honest and complete, so that the consumers and business customers may know the exact nature of what is being claimed.
We encourage customers to reuse, return or recycle materials where appropriate.
We provide customers with information about recycling (please check all that apply):

On a package insert.
In a catalog.
In or on these other locations: (please specify: )
We encourage customers to get local recycling programs underway.
We have established a recycling collection center on our grounds for the local community.
We support recycling collection programs for [please list of types of materials] in our own community.

D. We Employ Efficient Transportation and Distribution
We implement transportation policies and practices to reduce vehicular emissions, decrease traffic congestion and improve air quality. In support of this principle, (please select from the following list):

We use [and/or encourage our suppliers to use] eco-efficient transportation fleets.
We make [and/or encourage our suppliers to make] wise choices of fuels such as those with low sulfur content or alternative fuels such as liquid natural gas (LNG).
We use [and/or encourage our suppliers to use] eco-driving to increase fuel efficiency through active participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport program.
We shift [and/or encourage our suppliers to shift] volumes to rail and sea transport whenever feasible.
When selecting suppliers, we consider geographic location, including the proximity of the raw materials and products in relation to the pulp and paper mills/printing mills/manufacturing sites/final fulfillment and distribution sites.
Wherever feasible, we minimize [and/or encourage our suppliers to minimize] empty return loads when transporting raw materials and/or finished products.
Wherever feasible, we plan for greatest efficiency when drop shipping our mail.
