The Difference Between Text Marketing and Advertising Via Text
[DMA11]
A lot of people confuse the concept of text marketing with advertising via text, but there are subtle differences between the two that should be understood by anyone considering either option. Advertising via text is possible, as long as you get the recipient’s opt in approval to send marketing messages to their mobile device. But it’s not nearly as effective as text marketing, which consist of much more than just handing your customers the electronic equivalent of a post-it note saying “Don’t forget to send your business our way.”
Effective text marketing relies on creativity and your willingness to offer sometimes deeply discounted products or services as a way of driving traffic to your business – whether that business is online or a brick and mortar establishment. With text marketing, companies can announce timely discounts that offer true value to the customer who decides to opt in to an SMS marketing campaign. On the other hand, static advertising via text on its own is far less impactful.
If you’re interested in learning more about the subtle differences that can make or break a text marketing campaign, enrolling in workshops and one-on-one labs that’ll give you the opportunity to take cues from those who have achieved long standing success is your best bet. You can find both at the upcoming DMA2011 Conference and Exhibition in October, a leading industry event that brings marketing experts, marketing technology providers, and thousands of attendees from over 50 countries across the globe.
