2003 Nonprofit Achievement Award
Roger Courts Honored

On August 13, 2003 The Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation presented Roger Courts, director emeritus of the Sacred Heart League of Mississippi, with its 2003 Nonprofit Achievement Award. Courts was honored during the group's annual New York Nonprofit Conference held at The Waldorf=Astoria.

Each year, The DMA Nonprofit Federation recognizes a leader in the nonprofit community for his/her unprecedented dedication and service. Criteria for the Nonprofit Achievement Award include:
  • Demonstrated service as a source of encouragement and inspiration to others by exemplifying the highest levels of excellence in their work.
  • Recognition as an innovative leader in the nonprofit community.
  • Serves as a role model in the professional development of others.
  • Meets the highest ethical standards of the nonprofit community.
  • Outstanding record of achievement during the previous year or longer.
Courts began his 42-year career at the Sacred Heart League, Inc. The Sacred Heart League, a nonprofit organization dedicated to religious publishing and distribution, prepares more than 26 million pieces of direct mail (including Bibles, New Testaments, inspirational pamphlets, pictures and videos) annually. The League's 100 dedicated employees raise funds necessary to support the work of its "sister" organization, Sacred Heart Southern Missions. The charitable ministries that are provided include religious, social service, rural transportation, health care, AIDS counseling, housing, and education.

Courts is also the fonder, chairman, and CEO of Gregory Productions, a for-profit film production company, owned by the Sacred Heart League, that embodies Judeo-Christian values and ideals. In 1996, Gregory Production's first film, "The Spitfire Grill," received critical acclaim for an independent film and won several cinematic awards, including The Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Courts received numerous awards from organizations such as The American Bible Society, the National Catholic Development Conference, and the National Postal Forum. He has also been listed as one of Mississippi Magazine's "15 Great Mississippians."
