2004 Nonprofit Organization of the Year
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Receives DMANF 2004 Award

OOn August 12, 2004 The Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation (DMANF) has named Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) the Nonprofit Organization of the Year Award. The award, which recognizes a nonprofit organization for its exceptional efforts and vision, was presented at a luncheon on August 12 during The DMA Nonprofit Federation’s New York Nonprofit Conference.

"MADD exemplifies the highest levels of excellence in its work and is a recognized leader in the nonprofit sector," said Pegg Nadler, DMANF Advisory Council Chair. "The organization is known for its outstanding record of achievement and has demonstrated long-term success in using direct response marketing techniques."

"We congratulate MADD for being selected by its peers for the highest level of recognition as an outstanding nonprofit organization. We believe MADD serves as an inspiration to other organizations that can learn from its success."

Criteria for the DMANF's Nonprofit Organization of the Year Award include:
  • Demonstrated excellence in the pursuit of its mission.
  • Recognition as a leader with a solid reputation in the nonprofit and direct marketing communities as well as with the public at large.
  • Outstanding record of achievement and successful financial performance during the previous year or longer.
  • Meets the highest ethical standards of the nonprofit community.
  • Demonstrated long-term success using direct and interactive marketing techniques.
Depending largely on direct mail and telemarketing for its success, MADD is an excellent model of nonprofit organizations effectively using direct response techniques to both raise money and accomplish important program goals. Since its establishment in 1980, the organization has been responsible for thousands of anti-drunk driving and underage drinking laws at the federal, state, and local level. As a direct result of MADD’s efforts, 270,000 lives have been saved across the United States.

Laura Dean-Mooney, a MADD national Board member, accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
