DMA UPDATES ITS GUIDELINES FOR TELEPHONE MARKETING. DMA has updated the telephone marketing articles of its Ethics Guidelines to ensure that DMA members are following both best practices and federal law when conducting telemarketing campaigns. The changes to the Guidelines reflect the Federal Trade Commission’s recent amendments to the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR). These amendments expressly bar prerecorded sales messages unless the seller has previously obtained the recipient's signed, written agreement to receive such calls. The amendments also modify the TSR’s method for calculating the maximum permissible level of call abandonment. DMA’s Corporate & Social Responsibility (CSR) encourages all telephone marketers to review the updated Guidelines to ensure they are following the rules correctly. In the coming weeks, DMA will be providing further tools to assist marketers in this important area. To review the updated DMA Ethics Guidelines click here.
