2010 Winner of the DMA Insurance Company of the Year Award
The Savings Bank Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts
Accepting: Phil Crampe, E-Commerce Manager
SBLI of Massachusetts has been described by its CMO as a company that consistently hits above its weight class. Although significantly smaller than a number of key life insurance competitors with 250 employees and a marketing department of 5, the company began building its own marketing data base in 2008, which now serves as the repository of millions of customer and prospect records. The data base is the platform which powers the company’s marketing campaigns from the desktops of those in the marketing department.
SBLI’s mandate to build a multichannel marketing platform to support it’s B-B and B-C businesses is well underway with the launch of a significant number of new digital initiatives in the last two years, as a complement to the company’s many traditional marketing programs. Newly introduced digital initiatives include: a very robust program for key words and the content network supported by custom landing pages; introduction of email to support customer retention and client acquisition programs; highly sophisticated lead nurture email programs; an sbli.com mobile site; social networking programs on Twitter and Facebook, and a major redesign of their web site with migration to a content management platform. SBLI will shortly be rolling out a customer blog, which will highlight stories, pictures and videos from clients. More than half of the leads the company generates for its own sales force now come from its digital initiatives.
As the eCommerce manager at Savings Bank life insurance (SBLI), Phil Crampe is responsible for leading eCommerce activities. He is in charge of leveraging the web and other digital technologies to support SBLI's revenue and marketing goals, while ensuring efficient and effective use of email marketing, search engine optimization and pay-per click efforts. Prior to joining SBLI, Phil was a partner at Consolidated Marketing Services for over 21 years.
SBLI (Savings Bank Life Insurance) was established in Massachusetts in 1907 by Louis Brandeis, who later became a Justice of the US Supreme Court. SBLI has its headquarters in Woburn, MA. SBLI sells its products in more than 40 states and dominates in issuing insurance coverage and policies in its home state. SBLI is a market leader in affordable term life insurance, in addition to whole life and fixed annuities. SBLI’s products are sold through the company’s direct sales force as well as through a nationwide network of over 6,000 independent brokers.
